Kingston Parish, VirginiaAnglican Companions Initiative

In 2008 St Aidan’s was approached by the Outreach Warden of Kingston Parish, Mathews, Virginia USA with a proposal to link the two church communities together in fellowship under an initiative known as “Anglican Companions”. This proposal was taken up with enthusiasm by the St Aidan’s Vestry and initiated by a visit to Kingston Parish by Trevor Syms (Vestry member) in early 2009. Several gifts were exchanged, a watercolour picture of Kingston Parish church (which dates from the 17th century) now hangs at the rear of our church, and the Kingston Parish emblem hangs near the entrance of the Gathering Area. A St Aidan’s banner, designed and hand-made by a parishioner, signifying this union also hangs in the Kingston Parish church.

Since that time the two communities have periodically exchanged news of parish life and events, youth group activities, sermon subject information, greetings at major points in the church calendar and keep each other in prayerful union during weekly services. The primary objective behind this liaison is to demonstrate, in a modest but on-going way, our shared fellowship in Christ shared across the worldwide Anglican Communion.
