From Vicar Di Woods:
Happy Christmas! That’s what we all say isn’t it? Let’s think about it for a moment… Firstly to those who resist “Xmas”: good on you! For those of us who feel the need to abbreviate, can I recommend to you a trend being inspired by churches in the UK who are going for Cmas instead? I quite like it… The very fact that people have to look at the word and think “why haven’t they put Xmas?” – it gets a message across…
Now for the Happy bit. Hmmm. Do you know anyone for whom it won’t be such a Happy Cmas this year? Unsurprisingly perhaps, I do. People whose families will have an empty chair around the dining table; people who will be visiting a hospital, people who are living in fear of what the New Year holds… And so whilst I would love us all to experience a Happy Cmas, my prayer for you is that it would be an awe-ful one. Yes, full of awe. And one filled with significance and gratitude. Gratitude? Yes. For the gift that every single one of us has been given. What a tragedy that some of us leave that gift metaphorically unwrapped, lying at the foot of the tree, untouched since… It is a gift that has been given to you by none other than the God who created our universe; the God who has hand written the gift tag with your name on it.
I invite you to share in my awe, as I appreciate again what it is to receive the gift of Jesus: and as I choose to ‘unwrap’ that gift, and let Jesus loose in my life once more.
Have an awe-ful Cmas everyone ?
Di
Di Woods, Vicar
