For your Information

We now have a loop system covering the body of the church;  please change the setting of your hearing aid accordingly.

At communion we offer grape juice as an alternative to wine in the chalice (available at the 9:30am  service only).

Gluten free wafers are available, please advise a sidesperson if required before the service starts.

The Big City Build – St Aidan’s to be involved in the building of another Habitat for Humanity House Saturday 10th March 2012 will be a momentous day for the Fa’afiu family of South Auckland.  On that day the first nail will be hammered into a new house that will be built for them.   Habitat for Humanity in partnership with Holy Trinity Cathedral will transform the Cathedral forecourt into a building site and for two weeks, hundreds of volunteers will labour to construct a home for the Fa’afiu family. Upon completion the house will be transported to Mangere where the family will begin its new life.Holy Trinity has extended an invitation to neighbouring Churches and Schools to be involved in this project.  So once again, as we did in 2008, St Aidan’s parishioners will be able to don their hard hats, brandish their paint brushes, tie on their catering aprons and show all the others that we are old hands at this sort of thing – all the others being:  Holy Trinity Cathedral;  St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral;  St Paul’s, Symonds Street; St Barnabas, Mt Eden;  St John’s, Royal Oak;  St Andrew’s, Epsom; Diocesan School for Girls; King’s Prep School; and King’s College. How amazing for all of us, as people of faith, to have the very public Cathedral forecourt to witness to the wider community that we believe in a God who calls us to reach out in love beyond the walls of our  own Church and School buildings.

So, watch this space.  Early next year the Outreach Vision Group will explain how each and everyone of us can be involved.   For the moment it is exciting to know that the wheels are already in motion towards the fulfillment of this God-inspired promise made to the Fa’afiu family to provide them with a decent, safe, healthy and affordable home.

Want to help with our morning worship services?

Every year as peoples’ circumstances change we have a number of people coming off our worship roster.  There are also people who find that they may now be free to be more involved.  At the moment our most pressing need is for people to lead the liturgy at our 8am service.  We also need readers, sidespeople, and greeters for both 8am and 9:30.  If you are not currently on the roster and would like to be involved please speak to Craig.

Sexuality Discussion

The 2011 Diocesan Synod charged the archdeacons to prepare a resource that would assist ministry units in the on-going discussion of same sex relationships in ordained ministry.  As a result they have prepared a DVD featuring two well known New Zealand theologians discussing differing views on the interpretation of scripture.  This DVD is available through the parish office and can be used in Home Groups or other small group settings.  You may want to get some other parishioners together to watch the DVD and discuss this issue with them.

We are looking for some flat screen ?TVs – minimum size 32inch.  We wish to use them as supplementary monitors strategically placed in areas of the church where the words and images on the screen are blocked by pillars.  With the arrival of full digital TV next year some of you may be replacing your current flat screen analogue sets.  If you are planning to do this, or you know someone else who is, we would be very grateful for the donation of the old analogue TV.  If you can help, contact Gillian Reid.
