Our two synod reps continue on: Miles Brown and Gillian Reid.

Marie Taylor – People’s Warden

Marie Taylor (QSO) has been a tireless worker for the Parish over a long period of time including a period as Vicar’s Warden (1987-1992). She has also had a heavy involvement in the AAW and Saint Aidan’s fundraising activities.

Trevor Syms – Vicar’s Warden

Trevor has been appointed this year as Vicar’s Warden.  Trevor and his wife Catherine moved from Belgium to New Zealand in September 2006 and they been involved with their family in Saint Aidan’s for many years and Trevor has been a stalwart with his involvment in Vestry and Men’s group activities.  Trevor is a retired British naval officer with a computer systems and engineering background, who has spent the last few years working in NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Gillian Reid – Synod Rep, and Information, Communications and Technology Vision Group Leader

Dr Gillian Reid (QSM) is one of the St Aidan Parish Synod reps, and is, on behalf of the Diocese, Deputy chairperson of the Selwyn Foundation and a Director of Selwyn Care Ltd. Gillian is an active Diocesen representative on the Ministry Appointments Committee. Gillian has retired from the Corporate world, and is a university academic with a Ph.D, MBA, & B.Com. She brings her valuable IT and business skills to the parish. Gillian is the leader of the Information, Communications and Technology Vision Group, which manages our computer systems, data projection equipment, phone systems, web site and general electronic communications.

Miles Brown – Synod Rep

Miles is one of the Parish Synod reps and has been the Parish representative on the Remuera Christian Trust Board for some years now. Miles and Sue were married at Saint Aidan’s and now have two grown-up children. As a family they have been involved in Saint Aidan’s activities and worship over a 30-year period. Miles has served on Vestry in the past over a seven year period and was Vicar’s Warden to Harvey Smith. Miles was educated at the University of Auckland and has a very successful law partnership in Newmarket. We are fortunate to have his services and expertise on Vestry as our Synod Rep. 

Russell Florence – Treasurer

Russell was originally from New Plymouth and has lived in the Saint Aidan’s area for some 30 years. Russell is a retired partner of a large accounting firm and in his retirement he still holds some directorships. Saint Aidan’s is fortunate to have his accounting skills as our treasurer. Russell enjoys time with his family, likes a round of golf, skiing and travel.

Vestry Member – Fred McElrea

Fred is a long time active member of St Aidans.  He is a solicitor and retired Judge.  His experience in legal and finacial matters is a great help to the Vestry.

Property Manager – John A Glenie  (BCom ACA (Retired)

John has always lived in Auckland in the Saint Aidan’s area, although he has had extensive OEs to Britain and Europe.

We are fortunate to have John’s competent tradesman skills as our property manager, where he uses his skills to our benefit.  His life experience includes  50  years experience in business operations, strategic planning and staff management.  He has extensive involvement with building development, maintenance and ownership.  John is also a board member and financial advisor for the Friends of Holy Trinity Cathedral Investment Fund, and he is involved in Mentoring for Retail and Owner/Operator businesses and various sporting organisations.

John is a devoted family man with two grandchildren, and has always been an avid yachty with nearly 60 years involvement in the Auckland yachting scene.  He is also a life member of the College Rifles Badminton Club and Vice Patron College Rifles Rugby Football and Sports Club.

Nuwanthie Samarakone – Vestry Member

Nuwanthie has been a part of the St Aidan’s parish for a number of years.  Her career background is in public health management and health services across the public and private health sector in New Zealand.  She has been involved as a worship leader for many years and is passionate about youth and young adults which is her primary focus on the Vestry. Nuwanthie believes that we need to invest time, energy and our resources on children and youth today as they will define and contribute to the local community but more importantly to this country’s future.

Driven by this very same passion she has recently established a company to assist and service young passionate graduates who want a head start in their careers. This is a ‘hand-up’ approach to assisting passionate graduates who are driven, focused and motivated. In her spare time, you will find her hiking, mountain biking, watching cricket and rugby and spending time with her family, friends and her beautiful dog!
