St Aidan’s is a vibrant parish and is strongly committed to being involved in and serving the community around us. Various oversight groups steer ministries and are open to all. Make sure to have a look at the noticeboard in the Gathering Area for upcoming Mission and Outreach events.

Keep up to date with with our Mission activities via Facebook and Instagram.

City Mission Food Donations & Volunteering

Each Sunday we collect food for the City Mission. Bring along a can or other non-perishable goods to donate. We occasionally make a special appeal for items that the Mission is low on. Keep an eye out on our newsletters for more information around this.

Every Christmas we also get a group together to spend a few days volunteering at the City Mission’s distribution centre, where they sort clothing, linen, furniture and food.

Visit the Auckland City Mission website if you would like to find out more about the work that the Mission does.

Community Planting Days

When the Ōrākei Local Board and Conservation New Zealand team call for volunteers, a group from St Aidan’s gets involved. Keep an eye out for upcoming planting days in our newsletters, or on the noticeboard at church.

Mission Shop

Our Mission Shop is open 10am to 2pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Quality pre-loved clothing, accessories and knick-knacks at reasonable prices. Money raised through our shop is given to charity and community projects, with a Charitable Purposes Group deciding on where the money goes each year.

The total amount of money raised in 2023 was over $17,000. These funds are given to the work of various missions, and in December we distributed the total to the following charities:

  • Anglican Board of Missions emergency appeal in Gaza
  • NZCMS for our mission partners in Costa Rica
  • Anglican Trust for Women & Children
  • Auckland City Mission
  • Local Chaplaincies
  • Christian Broadcasting Association
  • CWS for NZ and global disasters
  • Two local budgeting and Prisoner support services

Pātaka Kai – Community Pantry

Thanks to the Auckland Central Community Shed team, our Pātaka Kai is now open! “Pātaka Kai”, which means storehouse or pantry in te reo Māori, is a place where people can leave food for other people to take for free. Our Pātaka Kai is stocked by the community, for the community.

Pins & Needles

A group of parishioners meet every 2nd Monday of the month to share ideas, patterns, plans and yarns – all in an atmosphere of fellowship, refreshment and inspiration, as they make warm clothes for the Anglican Trust for Women and Children, Counties Manukau Midwives, the Hamlin Hospital in Ethiopia, The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at National Women’s Hospital and other charities. Find out more here.

Prison Fellowship

A group of parishioners are involved in prison visiting, as COVID restrictions allow. See Barbara Weir if you’re interested in joining the team.

Overseas Mission

We work with the Christian Missionary Society to assist the work of overseas mission partnering to provide both financial and prayer support.
